I’ve said this many times before, and I will say this again. When faced with a setback, one could either give up or use that setback to propel him to greater success. Examples of people who have done the latter include Kanye West, Cristiano Ronaldo and Thomas Edison.

Don’t let setbacks permanently injure you. Let them assist you in your journey towards success.

Failure may come, but it is not final. Neither is it an indication of your standing in society. Thomas Edison failed many times before finally inventing the light bulb. Imagine what the world would have been like if he had conceded defeat and treated his failures as final. We would be living in a world full of darkness!

Do not be discouraged when you fail. We are all human and we make mistakes. What’s important is that we learn from the mistakes we made and we use those failures as catalysts to help us bring closer to the success that we dream of having. Don’t give up when you fail. Your dreams cannot be shattered by failure.

I remember some years back when I faced some challenges in my life that I was so depressed over a few bad decisions which I had made. I was upset with myself for making such silly blunders and I really struggled to forgive myself. However, I later came to my senses and resolved to use that experience as a life lesson. I decided to move on in life.

Failure is not the end. It is a stepping stone that brings one closer to success.

Being a go-getter can really benefit you. I’ve seen people who jump into opportunities which others do not see and they end up benefiting the most, all because there were go-getters.

Now, think about this. Do you want to jump into those opportunities or do you want others to snap them up before you do? How much do you want that success?

If you’re hungry for success, you will do anything within your ability to get it.

That’s drive.

Are you a go-getter, or are you someone who says, “whatever will be, will be”?

Zig Ziglar said that failure is an event, not a person. My friend, there are people who commit suicide because they think that their lives are in a mess and have failed to rectify the problems that they are facing.

Nevertheless, that does not mean that they are failures in life.

Everyone should get another chance in life, including you. If you have failed before, don’t be discouraged. Failures happen because we are not perfect.

However, when failures happen, we should learn from the mistakes that we have made, and rise up. It’s pointless to remain in the pit of self-pity because it won’t change you. Only if you choose to move on do you give yourself a chance at redemption.

I recall a period in my life when I felt really empty because I realized thathad made bad decisions in my life, and I was regretting the mistakes of my past. As I kept wallowing in self-pity, I realized that I had the power to change my life and start afresh. From that point onwards, I changed my mindset and my life has changed for the better.

So today, if you are depressed over your failures, don’t worry, for that failure is just an event. It does not make you a failure.

“You’ll never succeed.”
“Your dreams will never come true.”
“This is too hard… You’ll never make it.”

Don’t you listen to what these people tell you. Those statements are opinions, not facts. You see, people can say whatever they want to say to you. It’s up to you how take their statements. You can choose to agree with them or reject those statements.

You know yourself best. Your abilities, your skills, your desires. You may not know how you want to lead your life, but you certainly should not let others decide that for you. You are the leading actor/actress of a movie called ‘Life’. Don’t for one moment think that you are an extra or a supporting actor/actress in someone else’s movie.

As Eminem said, “you can do anything you set your mind to”. Don’t let another person’s statements hinder you from achieving your dreams!

Today, I would like to point out that there is no comfort in growth, and no growth in comfort.

As humans, we are resistant to change. People are afraid to step out of their comfort zone to learn something new, or to improve their skills, which could in turn bring them a better life. Blatantly put, they are just too lazy.

Personally, I’ve been through many tough and trying moments in life, and as I look back at them, I realize that I have learnt a lot from them, and something good came out of those uncomfortable moments.

In life, if you want to grow, you need to get out of your comfort zone. If you’re contented with staying where you are, then stay in your comfort zone, but don’t regret your actions in future.

As I look at the success that 50 Cent has achieved over the years, I sometimes wonder what would have happened if 50 Cent had given up after suffering that huge setback which he is famous for.

For those who aren’t familiar, 50 Cent is a successful rapper today, but back in 2000, in the early days of his career, he was shot 9 times, and many didn’t know if he would be able to rap again.

The shooting did not kill 50 Cent, but he had to go through a long a tough recovery period. 50 Cent was confused about his future. However, he did not let the shooting incident discourage him. He persevered through the tough recovery period and slowly, he became a successful artist. What did not kill him made him stronger.

Like 50 Cent, we all go through hardships in life. We can choose to wallow in self-pity, or we can choose to rise up and strengthen ourselves. I encourage you to persevere, because you have nothing to lose, and your perseverance might bring you great success that you can’t see yourself having right now.

Sounds familiar? Perhaps some people just have nothing better to do than dissuade you from chasing your dreams. You come up to them, telling them what you want to be, and instead of encouraging you, they shoot you down.

They think it’s impossible, but in this age and time, that’s not entirely true. Jobs that weren’t jobs a decade ago now exist. Students are now studying for jobs that haven’t yet emerged.

Don’t falter in chasing your dreams. People’s words can hurt, but the only one with the power to decide your future is you. Will you give up your dreams just because others say “you can’t”? It would be a waste if you could have attained your dreams, but failed to do so because of what others claimed. Words are what they are: words. Words are powerless to decide your fate.

Take your future into your hands now, and aim for the sky, because with will and hope, everything is possible.
