Now, I will discuss the difference between long tail and short tail keywords.
An example of a short tail keyword would be “dog training”. Now “dog training” is a very wide topic and many smaller topics can branch out from “dog training”. If you were to use just “dog training” as your main keywords or key phrase then you would face a lot of competition. In Internet marketing, you need to target a specific group of people. That is where long tail keywords come in.
From the short tail keywords “dog training”, I have found long tail keywords like “dog potty training”, “dog house training tips”, “dog training answers”, just to name a few. It evens goes to specific breeds like “Labrador puppy toilet training”.
There is lesser competition if you target specific long tail keywords.
Here are 2 ways you can find long tail keywords for the short tail keywords “dog training”.
1) Simply type “dog training” in the Google search bar and you will see a few suggestions.
2) You could simply accept “dog training” as it is and click on “Google Search”.
Click on “Show Options…”
Next, click on Wonder Wheel.
You will get something like this:
From here, you can expand on the list of available keywords by clicking on anyone of the keywords. For example, I clicked on “dog training tricks” and got this:
